A Study on the Climacteric Symptoms of Middle Aged Women in a Small City

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to find out climacteric symptoms and to clarify the relationship between several related factors and climacteric symptoms of middle aged women. Subjects for this study were 173 women between 41 to 60 years of ages living in J. city.
Data was collected by means of a questionnaire during the period from 1 Nov. 30 Nov. 85. The high score on questionnaire item mean hig)- degree in experienced symptoms. The results of the study may be summarized as follows.
1. Menopausal age was from 38 years to 55 years, the mean of menopausal age was 47.8 years, production period was 31.6 years, the duration of menstrual irregularity prior to menopause was 12.7 months.
2. 83.8 percentage of total subjects had experienced climacteric symptoms, and 22 percentage of total subjects had experienced severe climacteric symptoms. Mean score orders of experienced symptoms were "nervousness" (2.91), "arthralgia" (2.91), "general weakness" (2.71), "poor skin condition" (2.55), "dizziness" (2.45).
Total mean score of the climacteric symptoms was 2.35
3. Of the relationship between climacteric symptoms and sociodemographic variables, there were signficant relationships between climacteric symptoms and subjects¢¥ occupations (p<0.01), presence of life partner (p<0.01). There were no significance in age, education and religion of subjects.
4. Of the relationship between climacteric symptoms and health status, there were significant relationships between climacteric symptoms and subjects¢¥ physical health (p<0.01), psychological stress (p<0.01), and economic condition (p<0.01).
